Gomorra 360°
Sky Atlantic HD and Think Cattleya asked MONOGRID
to produce a multiplatform interactive 360 video experience
to promote the start of the second season of Gomorra the TV series.

The Brief

An engaging experience, the user is immersed directly inside the 360 virtual reality of Gomorra backstage. The experience is targeted to be part of a viral campaign before the launch of the series, thus mobile platforms are also of importance. The experience needs to be responsive, have great image quality, and stream quickly on desktops, tablets and other mobile devices.

Solution

The 360 video shot during the backstage of Gomorra's second season is stitched and color graded to match the look and feel of the series. The 360 video is then mapped into a sphere using code to be displayed on different web browsers. The experience takes advantage of the latest browser technology like: full-screen, gyroscope, and WebGL, making sure of the smoothness of the immersion.

We were excited to start working on this project, and dreaming of creating an immersive web experience with 360° video technology outside of youtube of facebook players. a 360° experience where users are engaged with interactive hotspots, on screen titles and creative navigation.


The experience is divided in several chapters which are revealed together, as the TV series unfolds, to keep tensions high and the user interested. Each of the chapters has its owns special contents that are related to the series, thus Gomorra fans can discover and share them.

The user can navigate the chapters by selecting specific locations from the fictional map that was created to symbolize each chapter. Each chapter is composed of a designed introductory title, specific music soundtrack, and carefully placed cue point for special content hotspots. We also include the option for the user to switch to different points of view within the same scene, using multiple 360° footage.

Mobile users have the luxury of experiencing the site by tilting and rotating the device to look around in the 360 world thanks to gyroscope technology, although the traditional drag to look around interface works as well.
